SODA CREEK RESTORATION AND FISH LADDER

Feather River TU volunteers assisted Plumas National Forest with cleaning rubble and sediment from the Soda Creek fish ladder. This ladder enables trout to access the cold water of Soda Creek from the East Branch of the North Fork Feather River, a formerly famous trout fishery which now often becomes too warm for trout in the summer. Fish access to Soda Creek was blocked for many years by an impassable highway culvert. TU is working on the restoration of the creek, where floods after downpours on the Dixie Fire burn scar washed out a road and related infrastructure.  TU observed six redds in Soda Creek this 2025 spring, as well as possible river fish, so hopefully, river fish are making their way up the ladder to spawn in the creek.
